Apparently part of the Swan Hotel next door. This is a proper old style boozer. Victorian in looks the interior is L-shaped. There are 8 handpumps on the bar of which 3 were for cider. Beers from Bank Top and Black Edge were on today. A courtyard is to the rear connecting with the Swan. A good traditional pub.

Side bar to the larger Swan Hotel, ths has a lovely old feel inside, some wood panelling, old benches & worn dark wood floor. Various forms of decoration from Eygptian to classical.

Good selection of real ales & craft beer

GBG listed and with a suitably traditional interior in dark panelling, wooden floors, exposed brick and the odd bit of lincrusta complete the picture. An open plan room with the counter dominating the front section, there's a cozy seating area forming the arm of an L. This area has an open fire, screen and machine with traditional pubby decor of old photos, on the down side the music was loud and totally inappropriate for the older Sunday lunchtime clientele. There's a largish partly covered drinking area in the yard at the back which appears to be shared with the Black Swan next door. The bar is reached via an archway at the side so it may have been one establishment at one time. The beer was fine and a mix of regionals and local micros.

Well done fake olde worlde bar with wood panelling and loads of pictures adorning the L shaped room. Background music was Cilla, Dusty etc catering for the mainly older crowd in the bar. Pricing is very competitive as well. 6 handpumps, but no micro breweries beers available. My pint of Schiehallion was well kept though and very reasonable at £2.05 a pint. I often call in here for one when in Bolton and it is always consistently good. It's open until 3 a.m. on Friday & Saturday!! Worth a visit in conjunction with Old Man & Scythe just around the corner.
