Quite a pretty stone building, but the interior has suffered from an absence of good taste in opening it out to make it as much like a new-build Marstons or Greene King on a retail park as possible. What a shame. On the other hand, at least there's a decent beer or two on. I went for the Black Sheep Pale Ale, the slightly stronger (4.0% abv) and less seldom seen cousin of Black Sheep Best Bitter (3.8%); the alternative was Landlord. Someone at the Victoria had told me as I left to come here that it's "not really a real ale pub", and certainly if anyone said they were coming here for a beer I would probably say the same. But at least the beer is well kept and the pub itself is not so repugnant that I couldn't sit here for 15 minutes to drink it.

Food-led pub near to a busy double roundabout in the Neville's Cross area of Durham.

All other customers on my Thursday lunchtime visit were eating or at least just finishing. Service was fine, but the solitary real ale was Black Sheep Best Bitter.

More of a restaurant than a pub.

One of the worst pub meals I've ever had - yorkshire puds were burnt to a frazzle, roast spuds were cold as was the rest of the veg which was served on a plain white plate - not the normal sort of veg serving container. Oh, and no serving spoon provided. The serving of stuffing was just a crunchy hard lump- obviously just warmed up. No one came to ask if everything was OK and, on reluctantly paying the bill, the waitress lied when saying she checked with us and said all was OK. If anyone fancies a good meal out - avoid this pub at all costs.
