If you can bag one of the high tables in the front windows the Filling Station is a great place to do some people watching, especially when the Fringe is on. The bar are is at the front of the pub and the much larger rear is for diners, this is a tourist trap. Only standard keg is available from the bar, but the service was friendly. This is a dimly lit pub that I wouldn’t normally enjoy, but it was a good spot to sit for an hour whilst watching people try to hand out flyers for their shows, some more successfully than others.

Bar/diner located on the royal mile. Standard draught selection and food served. The bar has motoring memorabilia on the walls.

More American diner than pub, The Filling Station occupies a modernised build which is a little incongruous in its Royal Mile setting. The front part is the bar area, sitting on raised decking, while the restaurant area to the rea is a bit lower. The bar areas is dominated by the lareg central bar which dispenses the usual range of megekag and foreign lagers (not the best kind). No real ale is on offer. Food is mostly the cardboard tex-mex variety, but is filling and exactly what you'd expect from this sort of place. The eating area is festooned with American car industry memorabilia and is, frankly a bit tacky. Staff were very friendly and helpful, and service was prompt and efficient. I wouldn't include in a crawl but it's OK if a group of you want a cheap, quick meal.

If the Hard Rock Cafe had a chain of themed pubs based on garages then this would be it.The pub is centrally situated and is frequented by both drinkers and diners alike. It is a long one roomed narrow pub with a dining area to the rear with the walls crammed with garage and car memorabillia. The pub opens early for breakfast, and seemed to do a steady trade all day.Quite liked it in here.
