Well described below, this impressive Georgian house is still being misused as a Harvester. The staff were not helpful, and there was no real ale. The interior is rather over-modern, tacky almost. I would love to come back if a different business could take this over and operate something more appropriate the surroundings.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about Harvester The Great Salterns Mansion

Large mansion overlooking Langstone Harbour, although the layout doesn't seem to maximize the potential opportunities. Once you enter via the impressive front staircase, you find the main restaurant areas off to the right and the bar to the left (which is open to those eating or dining). However, if the weather is good, the tables in the rear beer garden and on the first-floor decking terrace overlooking the water offer good views. No real ale, unfortunately, so made do with a quick keg 61 Deep (badly overpriced at £2.05) before moving quickly on.

Visit was mid afternoon on Good Friday

This place is very much a curate's egg.

If you are familiar with Harvester chain you will know the routine regarding drinks, food etc, we are not, so all a bit bemusing.

Staff were polite, friendly, helpful & clean, 10 / 10 there

Inside is a bit of a rabbit warren, as before, old Portsmouth council offices & listed, so not much can be done about that arrangement

We had lunch, nothing spectacular, but never been in Harvester chain before so perhaps it was "normal". We were not impressed 4/ 10 there

Beer, choice was Old Speckled Hen or JS Smooth, I had OSH. OK ish, but flat & lack lustre, left half of it, not something I do, especially at £3.14 a pint 3/10 there

Not one I would return to, but it was fairly busy so obviously suits many, but not me

Little more to add to the previous poster. Wheel chair access is through the archway and follow the footpath round to the right. You will find a lift to the bar ,diner and patio area. If the tide is out its a nice place to sit with a set of binoculars watching the wildfowl. Having settled at a table near the disabled toilet the waiter lectured us on the need to wait before being told where to sit.We often get this sort of thing so we did what we normally do..told him we were happy sat where we were and could he kindly bring some drinks. He did not repeat his actions the next time we visited.Despite this its a good place to visit and is a good example of a Harvester.Wheelchair access is excellent but stay, if possible, on the fringe of the dinning area as we had the foresight to do as it a bit tight further in.

Imposing looking building, as name suggests it once was a mansion, latterly belonged to Portsmouth City Council & now a Harvester pub / restaurant

Very large car park. The front entrance is up mansion steps, the rear overlooks Langstone Harbour across to Hayling Island, nice to sit there if tide in & sun's out

"Farmhouse" pub not far away, so choice of two pub / food chains if one does not suit
