Obviously a food led pub but at least there are a couple of ales. I had Tribute which was fine. I wouldn't go out of my way to call again if I wasn't eating but it is close to the train station.

UPDATE: Now a Stonehouse Pizza/Carvery and has had the grey/white make-over both inside and out. As per Graham's review, so clearly serves 2 real ales (Doombar and SA Tribute on my visit) as well as a real cider (Old Rosie). It does have a bar space with pool, darts and TV, though menus are on all tables. Go for food, not for beer.

March 2010: A sprawling modern brick build, with an attempt to make the buildings look slightly barnish in their design. A Crown carvery, with patio, found on the outskirts of town.

The interior has two parts, the carvery end, with nicer wallpaper and the bar end, where i went, which is also for dinind, excepting a small area of comfy seats. The decor in this part was mainly white, red, green, pink etc, with the structural frame showing to give a barn feel. It had MTV on, lots of mirrors and old photos. The music was mixed and of an OK level. The clientele was mixed and the place was busy as they do a cheap carvery. The service wasn't good, in fact it was rude - but i stress this was just in the bar, i didnt eat.

Beer; tap stuff, with two cheaper priced handpulls; Pedigree and GK IPA.

Forgive the pun, a run of the mill kind of place. I would assume the service i received was a one off, but it is, like so many chain places, a place to go to eat and drink, not just for a beer.

For a carvery/pizza restaurant in a standard modern building, this actually does rather well as a pub. The eating side is mainly confined to a large back room or a side family room, leaving a reasonable area round the bar with pool and darts available. Various live entertainments are also provided, included quizzes and karaoke. Outside there is a patio area fenced off from the rather large car park. Draught ales were slightly unexciting as Doom Bar and Speckled Hen but condition was fine and there was also a Thistly Cross cider on pump.
