Fortunately my fears below were not realised and this one reopened some months after my last review and has remained open ever since. It’s a fairly large L-shaped pub and you enter the corner front door to face the apex of the L shaped bar. The section to the right is a bit tucked round the corner and is more used as a dining area whereas the front and left side of the bar is more for vertical drinking even though there is some seating along the wall. And then further to the left is a large function room which is usually hidden behind wooden folding doors when not in use, and when it is in use it expands the inside space of the pub by another 50%.
I do not tend to visit here as there is no real ale and if I find myself in this part of Enfield I usually head to the nearby Wonder. But found myself visiting on Saturday night because they now have live bands on a Friday, Saturday and Sunday evenings in the function room as it is equipped with a large stage and sound system and the pub is on the Lemon rock pub band circuit.
As mentioned, there’s no real ale here, just mainly standard keg products including John Smith Smooth Crap, but there is Beavertown Neck Oil on a separate pump which is easy to miss and I did until I spotted a bloke up the bar with a branded Beavertown glass, and I’ll suffer a few pints of this for a cracking covers band.
The pub itself has a bit of an Irish feel to the place with some Irish branding including signposts to Irish towns, small Irish flags draped about and a bigger Kilkenny County hurling team flag on a flagpole on one of the wall opposite the bar. They also had a brand of Irish crisps on sale, which pleased one of our number. The section by the front door as you enter also has some memorabilia to Tottenham Hotspur, just so as to remind you the allegiance in this part of North London. And when the blinds are pulled down over the sizeable windows (not sure if they do this every night or just when there is a band on), the blinds have prints on of chalk drawings of some of Tottenham’s favourite sons in a pub situation. For example Hugo Loris and Gareth Bale are playing snooker, Harry Kane is playing a fruit machine and there are also blinds with Deli Ali and Sonny Boy, but I cannot remember what they were doing. Also in keeping with this type of pub there are several screens dotted about which show different sports on them, even if people are interested or not.
I understand this is a good community pub for the locals and there were a few in who looked liked they had been enjoying it for most of Saturday. I hope this survives as it clearly fulfils a purpose. Personally though, I wont be back until there’s another band on I want to see.

The Hop Poles stopped selling real ale in November last year and became Keg only, which was more fitting its target demographic.
And I am not saying its related but six months later its now shut and future uncertain.
Not a pub I ever bothered visiting, but still very sad to see another one go and hopefully it can reopen, but I fear another block of flats in this part of Enfield is imminent..

It was packed in here last Saturday and there was a disco in full swing in the large back room of the pub. There are plasma screens throughout and to the right of the bar there is a separate pool room housing two tables.

The staff seemed to be nice enough, but some of the other customers left a lot to be desired. One such 60's wide boy throw back made a point of pushing past me to get to the bar, but he was left a little confused when I still managed to get served first whilst standing behind him - hats off to the barman!

I spotted a standard draught range and Greene King IPA, but this may not be exhaustive as it was very busy at the bar making it difficult to see.

I'd imagine this place being great fun if you're a local, but I think that there are better pubs in the area for thirsty travellers like myself who are just passing through.
