A very nice, recently refurbished red brick village pub near the station. As your enter there is a mix of comfy and traditional seating to the right and a games area with pool table and dartboard, and the main pub and restaurant area to the rear, and large patio and then lawn to the rear and a smoking shelter to the side.
Amongst the drinks, two banks of four handpulls offered Pedigree, Black Sheep, Hobgoblin and Hobgoblin Gold, and a Wychwood Christmas beer had just finished. Tap offerings also included Brewdog Punk IPA and Shipyard APA. A pint of Hobgoblin cost me £2.70, though had I come on a Monday instead I would have paid £2.50 under their all day real ales offer. There is also a quiz night on Mondays, steak night weds and curry night Thurs. A Sunday roast costs £8.49.
So many village pubs seem to come a cropper trying to be all things to all people and ending up losing any identity, but they seem to have made it all work really well in this one. It had a very welcoming feel to it and I’d happily return here when in the area.
