This is a very large place on the A50 between High Legh and Mere and has been there for a very long time. There is now a Premier Inn attached at the back and the pub car park is actually off Bucklow Hill Lane and not the main road (that's for the hotel).
The place is very airy and pleasantly arranged with a large beer garden at the side and rear for when the weather allows.
The menu is quite comprehensive and there are some very reasonably priced dishes and then some other that are on the expensive side but all major food groups are there and our party of 14 had little difficulty in making a selection.
However, because we all pay separately we didn't have waitress service for the order and because I was paying on credit card i ordered main and desert at the same time. Imagine my surprise when before others starters had arrived the waiter was around trying to delivery my apple pie and custard. Oh dear!
Anyway the starters and mains were eventually served to a mixed bag. My fish pie was advertised as creamy but the mash potato was so dry it was like eating muesli without any liquid. Another member had Belly Pork which even the waiter could not decide if it was lamb or pork (and even after eating it my friend still wasn't sure). However, the sea bass went down well and the gammon's were tasty if a little on the small side.
Then my desert made a second appearance having been reblasted in the microwave (thick skin on custard that burnt your gob off). So all in all not the best experience and hence the relatively low score. I am sure that this was probably a one off and so would revisit but perhaps the next time make a totally different selection.
