Gill Smith left this review about The Longstop

This pub is now called Longstop which was it's original name. It has been derelict and boarded up for nearly 2 years and is now open as a brilliant real ale house. It is situated just past the clock tower in the centre of Leicester, and has 6 beers on handpull. As it is free of tie, the enthusiastic landlord is able to source his own micro breweries. We called in yesterday as they were hosting a beer festival, and we were pleasantly suprised by the range on offer with most beers being £2.70 a pint. It is basically a one room bar with an alcove off from the door set for dining, and another raised area to the left of the bar where the TV screen is. The food menu looked to be a good range of reasonably prioed food, and given their situation, they should do well, There was music playing. The only irritant was the loud banging of the door every time someone entered or left.

The above was in November 2011 and this pub is now firmly on my list of must visit pubs when in Leicester. We called in a few times in March while attending the Leicester beer festival, and enjoyed another visit Wednesday. They were showcasing Hopping Mad brewery and we chose Liberty APA and Hoppiness, both in good condition. There was also a stout on and a couple of other brewery beers.

Several brews on the bar when I popped in this weekend. Just about the only real ale pub in town showing the Tigers/Quins final live on ESPN. Despite all of the windows and doors being open on a blistering Saturday, they really don't like you taking your pint outside so don't. Good staff, decent toilets and nice beer. The end of the match gave the place a good atmosphere despite Tigers losing. Will call again if I am in town.

I popped in here yesterday afternoon and to my surprise the bar was almost dry except for a stout and one other ale. They explained they had a busy bank holiday weekend, so good for them. Prices were good, staff friendly. So will give it another go when back in town.
