A friendly and lively little bar/brasserie, with the main feature being a fair-sized courtyard in the middle. There are also several indoor rooms, and a signed upstairs too. Clearly not a traditional pub but they welcome drinkers in more of a continental style and I quite liked the feel of the place. It also boasted a wide menu ranging from sandwiches to mains, in contrast to some of the restricted offerings nearby. And to top it off it had a couple of ales on, in the shape of a very drinkable Brew York Pale and the ubiquitous Black Sheep Best, as well as some craft stuff. Certainly good for eating at, might even come back just for a beer.

located on little stonegate, this bar goes a bit under the radar as walking past numerous times i have never really noticed it. I went on a reluctantly went on Wednesday evening but had nothing to worry about as this turns out to be a very nice place. I was expecting some crap cocktail type place but the main emphasis is on exotic lagers and craft beers with two real ales.

I had a pint of banks Sunbeam and this was very well kept and quite reasonably priced at £3.20 espeially in this part of town. The other beer was Boon Boggle by Ringwood at the same price.

Although not really my kind of setting i rather liked this place in comparison to all the other overpriced fancy pants bars York has as it has a much more chilled out and relaxed atmosphere without being to pretentious. I would gladly return here for a drink if forced around this street.

Stonegate Yard is a pub that has eluded me so it was time to see what it is like.
I entered through a nice looking courtyard, once inside there is a long narrow room with the bar facing, the room is split into three areas, there is a small square shaped area to the left which is down two steps, this area had very comfy bench seating with tables and chairs, the bar area had normal tables and chairs.
There were two real ales on the bar,i had a drink of a beer called My Generation which was quite a nice drink, the other beer was Milestone american Pale Ale.
Decent background music was playing.
I quite liked this pub,it has a nice laid back atmosphere.
Well worth a visit.

We popped in here on a Monday afternoon to see the guest ale was gone, so our choice was their regular Black Sheep, which was in good shape. The layout consisted of a completely covered courtyard area on entry with the bar area to the left, which were both very dark. There were two small rooms from the bar which were tastefully wallpapered and bright. The restaurant area was upstairs, the staff were friendly and chatty.

What a difference a year or two makes. We tried to call in at lunchtime recently and literally couldn't get in the place. We called back at about 7:30 in the evening once the day tripper crowds had gone and had a couple of good pints. I'm pleased that it's a roaring success, but it looks like lunch is out now.

I've been aware of this bar for some but as I knew they only sold Black Sheep Bitter I've never bothered to visit. Having read in Ouse Boozer that they now had a second handpump with a changing guest beer we decided to call in last week. There's a large downstairs bar and dining area with an upstairs restaurant. There's also a courtyard which is heated and looks quite cosy. As we entered they were playing Jeff Buckley in the bar so my optimism grew. The changing guest was Cropton Yorkshire Warrior which was excellent. Ms CAMRA had a glass of red wine from a decent list of offerings. The three staff we met were all friendly as we discussed music choices etc with them. We sat down and enjoyed our drinks in what was quite a quiet bar, but it was a Monday night. Very impressed really and we may well eat here in the future, we'll certainly call in for a drink again. Well done guys.
