Evil eye is a very well known cocktail bar on stonegate in York. his is a very popular place with Johnny Depp visiting along with other celebs. I appreciate this is a cocktail bar but they really do not cater for any other types of drinkers here, if not a cocktail drinker there is very little else. obviously no cask ale, not keg beer just a very very limited beer list of bottles at very high prices. I had a bottle of York brewery centurion ghost ale at £4.00 which was very expensive but average for a place like this i suppose. The bar itself i did not rate, it was far less upmarket than i imagined and seemed dirty with wet bar tops and sticky tables, it was also very cold and quite bare. There are some people who would probably really enjoy this place as it is rather trendy but anyone wanting nice drink other than a cocktail i would not recommend it to.

Hidden behind an off license this is a long thin bar based on Asiatic principles or perhaps that oft quoted bar in Star Wars. Decorated with orange walls, bare boards, eclectic furniture and odd artefacts, including gongs, and stuffed lizards. There are no draught beers but a reasonable range of bottled beer is available from the fridge ranging from York Guzzler at 3.6% to Guinness Foreign Export Stout at 8%. There is wine and lots of exotic spirits – reading the drinks menu “Evil Drinks Solutions” shows you why they have this range of drinks – three pages of cocktails plus chocolate, coffee, soft drinks and 8 varieties of tea. There is an exotic east Asian menu – evileyeasianfoods – mainly Thai and Indonesian with a bit of Japanese and Vietnamese for good measure. The service is fine and the place attracts a wider range of customers than you may think, there is a walled garden at the back and most of all it's fun.

A very dark and trendy cocktail bar, that seems to attract the tattoo lovers of the city. Flag floored with lots of goth style posters on the wall. Sadly there's no draught beer of any kind, only bottles and cocktails. We called in early afternoon and certainly didn't want a cocktail at that time, so we left it.
