Large hotel and free house at the end of Marygate on the way to the Ouse.

Dropped in here on the way between town and The Minster Inn, not a pub I had seen before so worth a quick stop.

6 ales on the hand pumps. 2 from GK with the remaining 4 being from Yorkshire breweries. I opted for a half of Saltaire's Sir Titus @ 3.8%, a more than drinkable drop.

A few people eating, the food looked alright but there was quite a stench of food around the pub which I find very off putting.

Decent music playing and a tv on mute, showing I don't know what!

Judging by the generic interior and the presence of Old Speckeld hen and Abbot i would assume this pub is tied in some way to Spirit/Greene king. this pub is located behind the museum gardens and near the river ouse down a dark back road, if you dint know it was here I don't believe many people would ever come here.
There was still a good selection of guest beers with Copper dragon golden pippin, York Guzzler and Terrior and another i cant remember,at £3.10 the golden pippin was a reasonably good price and kept very nicely.

This was a very pleasant place to sit and have a drink but was a little quite as there is really not much going on in the surrounding area. If ever around i would gladly have another drink here though as they ahve some very nicely kept local ale, just not the sort of place to stay all night.

Old Boots left this review about Bay Horse

Large stone & Brewers Tudor pub near the river, park and St Mary's abbey. A plaque in the fireplace gives a date of 1894. Five pulls plus one for cider including a house beer - Landlords Choice, the barmaid didn't know the source but guessed GK so I didn't try it, at 4% it wasn't IPA. The beer quality was ok but I thought my Big Red was a bit lively, a bit cool and had a slight odour not usually present in Ossett beers. Local beers from Ossett and Copper Dragon plus Broadside and Abbott from further afield. Modern clean decor with the envitable grey paint job, too many high stools and dining tables for my old fashioned tastes as well. Mix of board, carpet and herringbone brick flooring, there's also the usual screens, machines and piped music. Not a bad pub but of course the outstanding Minster Inn is up the road so the competition is stiff.

Real Ale Ray left this review about Bay Horse

The interior looked a bit too cluttered to me. The pub must get extremely busy with diners or somebody ordered too many tables and chairs. They do promote real ale and surprisingly there were six handpumps displayed on the bar, five of which were in use. The Ossett Yorkshire Blonde was excellent.

Looks like it may have had another refurb since the last reviews. It's one large room with a raised area to the left as you enter. There's a large terrace at the front, which is very pleasant in summer and also very peacful. It's very foody and it also has 4 letting bedrooms. No noisy machines when we called either. 4 handpumps on the bar, Abbot Ale, Old Speckled Hen & Copper Dragon Golden Pippin, with CD Challenger turned round. The Pippin was pretty good as well. It's not a place to spend any length of time unless you're eating, but it is a nice peaceful place to call in for one.

Rex Rattus left this review about Bay Horse

This pub is situated in a large building resembling a manor house at the river end of Marygate. It looks very much like a hotel lounge to me, with big chunky wooden tables, and high backed chairs. It’s carpeted throughout, and the walls are predictably adorned with numerous prints of horses. There was some pop music being played, with sporadic pings and dongs from a games machine being played.
The girl behind the bar was friendly enough, but somehow the place seemed to be lacking in atmosphere. She seemed to be a bit surprised to be asked to remove the sparkler, as the beer would obviously be flat as a result, but when she twigged that I was from somewhere down south, she accepted such an irrational request as being quite understandable. There were six ales on – I had the Copper Dragon, and I also noticed something called Lady Julia, which unfortunately I didn’t have time to sample. They also had Fuller’s Hock on, and speaking to the landlord I discovered that they were selling it for £2.30 a pint. When I said that I had recently paid £3.70 for a pint of the stuff in London, this confirmed their opinion of me as some sort of madman from London!
Someone has obviously spent a lot of money on this place, but for me it doesn’t really work. I think they need to brand it as an upmarket pub/restaurant or as a basic pub. Bin the banal pop music, one-armed bandits, noisy games machine and get in some decent furniture and it could be a destination pub. With six decent ales on it certainly does have potential.
