Blue Scrumpy left this review about Lion Inn

After visiting the Boat Inn at Penallt, the Lion Inn was always going to struggle to live up to our lofty expectations. However, with the Boat being our favourite pub of the day in Monmouthshire, the Lion very quickly became our second favourite.

Situated on a bend and junction of the B4293 in Trellech, this pub has a very good and varied ale and cider selection. Wye Valley Butty Bach seems to be everywhere around this area and sure enough it was present here. Although, there were 3 guests - Wye Valley Copper Hop Ale, Bespoke Into The Light & Tudor Skirrid. It was the best ale selection we'd seen in the county yesterday and only a dark beer would have improved it much more. Ciders were Hallet's Rum Cask, Gwynt y Ddraig Drew's Wild Cider - Medium & Pulp Damson Cider. Although, when we showed interest in the Damson Cider, the landlord doubted he could get enough out of the box. I chose the Drew's Wild Cider, which also seemed to be getting towards the end of the box.

The interior has two clear areas, with plenty of tables crammed in. The bar area is to the right, with a lounge/dining area to the left. Handpulls can be found in the lounge area, with beers listed on a blackboard in the bar area. There are also a couple of tables outside to the front of the pub and a tented area to the right-hand side of the pub.

The car park is to the left-hand side of the pub and featured a large marquee at the rear. I guess this is used for beer/cider festivals and/or live music.

Graham Coombs left this review about Lion Inn

Quite excellent old stone pub in picturesque village with some good ales and ciders on offer but mainly noted for its deservedly popular food. A fairly compact bar serves two areas, with that to the left being more of a restaurant. various special events, including ale and cider festivals. Cask Marque listed.
