An impressive Victorian pub with glazed tile frontage and a large pavement area at the front. It is still being run primarily as a down-market Chinese restaurant and bar, but isn’t actually any good at either. The large bar is cluttered with various stuff including bicycles and packing cases, the dining tables compete for space with a pool table, the food is not good and there is no real ale. Service is extremely slow and there is little by way of atmosphere. I don’t propose to come back until it has been recovered from the depths and returned to something more suited to the marvellous building.

This pub is a mixture of pub & Chinese restaurant, including a "take away" option, no doubt hence the "Dragon" in the name. Also has English bar menu, Burger, chips, Bangers & mash, Pie, chips, peas all at 2.95 & of course Fish & chips £3.95, not sure what you would actually get for such a low [by pub prices] price, not tried so unable to enlighten on this subject

Reasonable sized car park, which given location near Isle Of Wight ferry terminal, would be a boon for visitors

On entering via front door from car park, to left is the one fairly large bar, and through an open doorway to right is the restaurant area

The bar area is oddly shaped, with large central pillars and odd corner seating, no doubt a relic from it's days as the Gloucester Hotel, built around 1900

Bar furniture is unfortunately the over sized settees & couches, with low tables. There are some normal tables as well

Two huge TVs, with different channels playing fairly loudly to an empty bar [only me in]

Outside seating area

Only has standard keg stuff, John Smith's smooth etc. Staff talk among themselves in Chinese

Not one I would recommend, but if you are waiting for the ferry and fancy a Chinese meal with a pint, this is your place

Renamed by partly reverting to previous identity. Now the Mary Rose & Dragon which seems an odd pairing to my eyes
[admin note: changed name from Dragon to Mary Rose & Dragon 29/06/2010]
