A smallish pub between the village centre and the river, it consists of one room internally in an inverse T shape with the bar at the rear. It was remarkably quiet on a recent Tuesday evening visit, with no other punters in there initially, although another couple did come in later. The landlady seemed friendly and very chatty, perhaps on account of her having no other customers to serve.

Décor wise it’s perhaps a slightly odd mix of old and contemporary. At the front of the pub there are plenty of wooden beams on the ceiling, although the Artex type plasterwork in between them seems a little incongruous and the vibrant aqua blue paintwork on much of the walls seemed an odd mix with the wooden beams. Elsewhere was white plasterwork whilst the flooring was sanded wooden boards. Large windows gave a good outlook on to the green and a small log fire was burning away in the upper part of the pub, although unfortunately this seemed to have little effect and it could have definitely have done with being a few degrees warmer in there. To the left was an exposed stone wall and a much larger fireplace, although this was not in use. A couple of comfy arm chairs and a sofa were at the front of the pub and a bookcase had a selection of books and a few board games, presumably as part of some book swap scheme.

Beers on tap were Courage Best and Cottage Brewing’s Pacific whilst a third pump for Doom Bar appeared to have run out. Ciders meanwhile were Thatcher’s Dry, Thatcher’s Gold and Black Rat. If none of that takes your fancy you could opt for a “Fish Bowl” at £7.50 which apparently consisted of either rum or vodka along with WKD Blue and lemonade.
