Blue Scrumpy left this review about The Lord Nelson

Suburban pub in a residential area 3 miles to the north of Hull city centre. It can be reached by the number 5 bus from the centre or by a short walk from the busy Beverley Road where several bus services run.

This pub appeared in the Good Beer Guide as recently as 2019, but no longer serves real ale. Keg beers were Carling, Fosters, Guinness, Kronenbourg, John Smith's, Coors, Strongbow & Strongbow Dark Fruit.

There is one sub-divided room with the bar to the rear of one side. On arrival there was nobody serving, but the young guy playing darts soon moved behind the bar to serve me. I have to say that the dozen or so customers were all quite friendly. They were obviously aware that I was a bit of a stranger, but I received a greeting when I arrived and was bid farewell when I left. This seems like a really good example of a community local, despite them no longer serving any cask ale.

Will Larter left this review about The Lord Nelson

A solid estate pub with a group of locals watching a TV programme about hippos and how they secrete a natural sunscreen which also has antiseptic qualities, ideal for protection from both sunburn and infected battle wounds. And the sole real ale, which was Wainwright, was in pretty good condition and just £3 a pint.

A quasi flat-roofed local’s local close to the University and ventured in to its GBG17 listing. Someone's made sure that interior is neat and tidy, with an eclectic mix of rugby league shirts pinned to the ceiling, whacky pub carpet that may be original and a dark varnish wood pool room. Perhaps an unlikely looking GBG entry but the clips above the bar attest to a pushing of cask. Two pumps in view with Tetley Bitter and Cameron's Brown Dog (good nick) available. It was a decent little stop.

The Lord Nelson looks like a pretty ordinary estate pub but it is a lot better once inside.
There were two rooms in this pub i went in the bar which was on the right this was a very nice comfortable room with bench type seating either side of the room and the bar was facing as you entered there was a large tv over the fire place showing sports this room was quite busy with a mixed bunch of drinkers, there was a seperate room to the left this had a pool table in it.
There was one real ale on here this was John Smiths cask and this was a nice drink.
I quite liked this pub and would happily come in here again.
