Graham Coombs left this review about Yates's

Fairly typical city centre Yates's, although perhaps a slightly less modern feel than some. One large room with the bar running down the side and a small covered patio at the back. DJ on Friday and Saturdays nights, when I suspect the place is best avoided, but was ok at lunchtime. Draught ales were Doom Bar, Seafarers and Hobgoblin Gold, which was reasonable drinkable.

Nothing much has changed here since ETA's description a year ago, only beer on was Old Golden Hen,it's all pretty desperate and depressing,I certainly wouldn't bother again.

E TA left this review about Yates's

As McPubs go, this isn't the worst, nor is it the least pleasant on Portsmouth's Guildhall Walk moron-odrome. It was very loud, so loud that I had to ask the bouncer to speak up when he came to tell us to finish our drinks as it was time to put the children to bed. The bar staff were actually quite pleasant and friendly, almost apologetic at our having to step over the cretinous wasters of university fees and miserable-looking hen-party casualties that burbled quietly on the laminate floor at the foot of the bar. It is mainly open plan with a few tables along the side opposite the bar counter. The food was pretty rubbish as was the noise coming from the sound system. A glitter ball hanging from the ceiling made an ironic nod to the 1970s. The ale on was GK IPA which was, I have to admit, in very good condition and made for a decent pint. If you really must drink in this killing zone, this is the probably the best cover between the White Swan and The IKB.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about Yates's

Just a charmless as one would expect, with a large but anonymous 'L'-shaped bar. Went in at a quiet time (mid-afternoon on a weekday), but even then it had a slightly edgy atmosphere. Two traditional handpumps plus one of those fancy Bombardier founts with a 'camouflaged' handle, offering an acceptable pint (£2.40). Only went in because I had a voucher for a free cheeseburger and chips, and I won't be rushing back...
