A brick built back street pub set back slightly from the main road just outside the town centre. Internally, the white painted walls are criss-crossed with fake timbers giving the impression of a much older building. There are two rooms: I went in the public bar on the left, where there are two hand pumps, though the beers were drawn from pumps on the bar in the other room. Beers on offer were Oakwell Barnsley Bitter and Dark Mild. I enjoyed a half of the latter (only 90p), which Trudi, the friendly bar person, topped up without having to be asked. It was fairly quiet, in terms of customers, for a Saturday lunchtime, but with The Who followed by Derek and the Dominoes at high volume on the CD player, it was anything but quiet aurally. Some interesting black and white photos of local street scenes adorn the walls. Definitely worth a visit for the beers, this would be a much nicer pub without the loud music.

What a lovely traditional pub. The Devonshire Arms has been very tastefully redecorated with new seating and new carpets.
There are 2 rooms, firstly, the Lounge Area is very cosy with Oak Beams and Open Fire. Secondly, the Bar Area is large with a pool table and Dart Board with ample seating.
The Devonshire Arms has a beautiful large garden with play area for the children.
Not to be missed is Friday Nights when they have Cash Bingo and Quiz with free supper.
Saturday Night IS Open Mike Night, so if anyone would like to try their talents then this is the place to be.
A very friendly environment where everyone is always made welcome with a cheery smile.
Karen and Steve, who run The Devonshire Arms are exceptional hosts who keep the pub in tip top condition, along with the lovely bar staff who do an brilliant job.
Many a good party are held here and the room is available free of charge but cannot be closed off to the regular who frequent the pub.
The Devonshire Arms have recently achieved a Grade 5 in Food Safety Hygiene.

The Devonshire Arms is to the south of the centre of Alfreton and it used to be a Shipstones tied house.
This pub is still pretty much unaltered and there is now a good choice of real ales with some micro brewery beers on.
