You enter a central corridor from any of the various entrances and the bar here has a wooden floor and a flatscreen on the far wall. The two handpumps here were serving Abbeydale Absolution and Navigation Gold (£2.50 in good shape)and this area attracts the locals who make full use of the bar stools.Opposite the bar is a large pool room with an impressive leather banquette, while through an open doorway there is a small lobby area outside the restaurant, again with some leather bound seating and a couple of tables.I wanted something to eat,so made my way into the restaurant, where there is a seperate serving counter with three more handpumps drawing Sarah Hughes Dark Ruby Mild,Thornbridge Jaipur and Old Rosie cider.Shame the full ale line up is not displayed at the corridor bar.
The food was well cooked and very keenly priced,my jacket and chilli was £2.95,most mains were around £6 with baguettes £3.Carvery equipment indicates this would be a available, probably at weekends. The food was popular with a mature clientele and the modest muzak of ballards seemed appropriate.
Outside there is a large covered smoking area with a table football machine.Apart from the restaurant, quite a basic interior but friendly enough, this pub is not far from J28 on the M1 and is a good bet for a decent bite to eat, with a GBG 2013 entry on the strenght of a decent ale offering. If I lived locally this would be a regular haunt.

A very pleasant pub with four hand pumps offering two beers from Blue Monkey (BG Sips and Strong Ale), plus Sarah Hughes mild and one of the Dr Morton series from Abbeydale during my very brief recent visit. Friendly service and atmosphere, so I wouldn't mind returning for a longer session.
