A handsome three-storey stone building, the entrance has two options which, it turns out, both lead to the same room that has been opened out from two or three smaller rooms and now wraps around the central bar. Wood panelling painted in shades of grey-green-blue goes to waist height, and blown up photos of paintings act as wallpaper above - Turner's Rain, Steam & Speed is particularly dramatic. There are five hand pumps with three beers from Thwaites. I went for the Original, which was in good condition. Although it was only just gone midday on the Saturday when I was here, there was already some serious drinking going on, with a group of half a dozen occupying seats near the front window and making this seem more pub-like than the previous reviewer found it a couple of months back.

A short walk out of Settle town on the main road.

This was my digs for the night and as a B&B, it was faultless. Immaculate room, decent breakfast, friendly staff.

As a pub - rather lacking in atmosphere/punters.

I arrived at 2pm and no-one was there, apart from the owners having lunch.

Went out for an investigation of Settle and returned around 9:30pm. Probably three other customers, and the bar maid phoning for a lift home.

Thwaites Original in fine condition. So its suggests the turnover is happening at sometime.

Visited earlier this month. At the bar are six pumps for cask ale but unfortunately three of these were off. The remaining offering consisted of Pheasant Plucker by Bowland, Mary Jane by Ilkley and Tetley Cask.

The pub is effectively one main room surrounding the bar in a horse shoe, though there is the feel of separate sections. There is a room to the right set out for dining.

Seemed fairly friendly and a group of locals were in chatting to the young barmaid.

Water is out for the dogs, and a jar of dog biscuits.

There is a small courtyard and car park to the rear.
