A very traditional village pub in a charming quiet village ,a stiff 20 minutes walk uphill from the Oxford Canal,quicker on the way back.To the right there is a very charming restaurant area with a small bar with one handpump and french windows to the courtyard and garden outside.Tables are laid for dining but I guess you could sit in here for a quiet pint.
To the left is a traditional small bar and the door has a sign requesting it to be opened slowly incase someone inside was drinking behind the door space.There are three traditional tables,some bench and pew seating and bar stools,while up some steps is a room with two further tables and a Northamptonshire skittles table.The ceiling beams and exposed brickwork show the age of this part of the building.
The pub is both dog and family friendly,sadly a precocious brat refused to sit with mum and dad and instead pertched on a bar stool , playing on a tablet while being noisy and obnoxious.I escaped to the skittle room but this took the edge off the traditional atmosphere where the lack of muzak,fruit machines and screen is much appreciated.
Customers will also eat anywhere they can pitch down,hence two family groups in the bar on a Thursday evening.
There are 4 handpumps offering Purity Mad Goose,Ruddles County,Church End Goats Milk and What the Fox's Hat (NBSS 2.5,a little cold).Saxilby cider advertised.
Often not open on midweek lunchtimes or early doors,it's sensible to check opening times and worth booking a table at popular eating times.
Worth a visit for the very traditional feel and well done for a rural pub maintaining 4 real ale options at the bar.

A delightful, traditional village pub which, I believe, has had input from the villagers to keep trading. Understandably in a small village the Old Olive Bush only opens at lunchtime at the weekends.
It's a solid red brick building with two frosted glass bay windows either side of the front door. The car park is tucked to the side and there aren't any large and garish signs advertising the pub so it's all nicely discreet and blends well into the village.
On entering you're immediately faced with a choice: to the right is a surprisingly large dining room stretching to the back of the building while to the left is the small and cosy bar. There are only three or four wooden tables in here which along with the wood bar and bar stools and exposed brick make for a very traditional feel. It doesn't take many people to fill the bar and make it feel busy. Beyond the bar is a games room found up a small flight of stairs to the left.
Three handpumps offered Sharpe's Doombar, TT Landlord and Church End Poachers Pocket. Doombar and one ale from Church End always seem to be on. My Landlord was in decent nick and as the bar was busy we adjourned to the delightful garden from where there are good views of the Warwickshire plain.
Whist not offering the widest selection of beers, the Bush's ale selection tends to be consistently decent and it's always well kept which makes this welcoming village pub worth a visit if passing.

The Old Olive Bush
This pub is in the heart of a quaint village, it takes 25 minutes to walk from oxford canal bridge 102, ( a very steep hill) just over a mile. Opening hours are changeable, 12- 3 pm lunchtimes and 7-11pm for evenings. Highly recommended that if you want to eat to book a table in advance. They were serving Hook Norton’s Bitter, Black sheep and a 3rd real ale that I have forgotten.
You could easily mistaken the exterior for being another house, but the interior has a bar and lounge, with old fashioned pub seats. They had a great rear garden. Worth the walk but don’t be disappointed phone ahead Tel: 01788 890318
