Blackthorn _ left this review about The Mariners

A contemporary looking pub in a prime spot overlooking the estuary, the Paul Ainsworth branding on the exterior suggests that it’s going to be suitably upmarket and the overall feel of the place does nothing to dispel that. The patio area at the front of the pub and the glass sided balcony on the upper level are both great spots to take in the fantastic views across the estuary to Padstow. Staff were all genuinely friendly and helpful, with one of the waitresses even bringing around bowls of water for any pooches who might be thirsty.

Internally it looks to be recently renovated but nonetheless has a fairly traditional appearance with dark wood strip on the floor and white painted boards cladding the ceiling, which gave it something of a nautical feel perhaps. Seating was a mixture of padded banquette seating around much of the permitter, with regular tables and chairs elsewhere and a few red leather arm chairs. Natural wood panelling was cladding the lower part of the walls with neutral paintwork above. The right-hand room had a slate stone-built fireplace to one side with a wood burning stove. Various artistic water colours were on the walls, as well as an old map of the area.

Beers on tap were all from Sharp’s with their Sea Fury, Coaster Alphonso and Doom Bar in both regular and Extra Chilled guises. The solitary cider meanwhile was also from Sharp’s with their Cold River. Overall, the main draw here is undoubtedly the view, but the pub itself was also a pleasant enough spot if lacking much in the way of any genuine character.

Paris Hilton left this review about Mariners Rock

Full of the Kensington-by-the-sea Hooray Henrys who spoil this part of Cornwall every summer, The Mariner's is not one for the true pub go-er. There are far better pubs a ferry ride away in Padstow (try the London Inn), or pay a visit to Sharps Brewery, just outside town (village!)
