No frills old fashioned boozer with a friendly landlady and locals alike. There were 6 handpulls on the go on my Wednesday afternoon visit and the pint of stout I had was top drawer.

A very hearty welcome from the manageress who was very jolly and could be heard across the pub with her booming laugh. This was definitely a locals pub as the majority of the customers knew one another. Six ales on handpump, three from the Burton Bridge Old Cottage Brewery, which is less than a mile away and three guest beers. I went for the BBOC Halcyon Daze, which was decent enough.

No longer owned by the Old Cottage Brewery this pub still acts as their brewery tap. The interior is described at length by Soupy below and nothing has changed since. A very friendly bunch of punters in on a Saturday night, but it wasn't particularly busy. Six handpumps on the go with 3 from Old Cottage and 3 others. All 3 pints I had here were in good condition especially Morton Peach Blonde which I was a bit wary of, but it turned out to be excellent. I'll definitely call in here again next time I'm in Burton.

A brew pub retaining a fairly traditional layout as described by Soup Dragon, I wouldn’t be quite as effusive as Mr D but it’s a fine pub. I liked the snug which on my visit was also quiet, the beer advert decorations are for Samuel Allsopp products but in a very modern style which confused me. This is Burton's enthusiast/tickers pub with its enviable choice and great quality, definitely a pub to seek out when in this part of the town.

A fantastic looking Victorian corner pub and restaurant, which is the brewery tap for Burton Old Cottage Brewery. The pub is in cream painted brick with red paintwork. It is a lot bigger than it seems. The former corner entrance to the pub is now blocked, in favour of a more central one and it still has a side entrance for horse traffic.

The interior has several rooms. On entry, there is a central passage, with a small snug to the left, which was empty except for the comfy chairs and tables. Down a step there is a front room and back room both served by a central serving bar. These rooms are in a clay like colour, with a white and beam ceiling and a patterned carpet. Each room has a brick chimney breast and have photos and prints on the wall. In the bar there are blue seats and an interesting clock. There is a TV in the lounge room at the back and the music was general and a decent level. At the back of the pub section there is a separate resturant room, which was closed on Sunday evenings, so alas i didn't see it - or get to try the food! Upstairs, there is a games room with pool, darts and a skittle ally. The service was fine and the place (other than the snug) seemed busy, with a Christmas party occupying the lounge.

Beer; tap stuff with Burton Old Cottage Stout (decent), Oak Ale (very good) and Halcyon Daze, with guests; Slaters Top Totty, Falstaff Smiling Assassin and Milestone's Cupid.

Class, class and a little more class. Everything you could need with a great range of beers - the food and games areas are separate, so nobody feels 'their' space is invaded. As the good Lord says, "come to Me Carling drinkers, and be saved".

A traditional Victorian pub retaining an original layout and well described below. At the far end of the building there is a restaurant, but unvisited by ourselves due to a focus on ale consumption. Most definitely worth including on any tour around town, especially to sample the Old Cottage Brewery output,I would happily return .Good to see very strong support from the local community,in a slightly shabby part of town.

Thuck Phat left this review about The Old Cottage Tavern

An excellent Victorian local with its own brewery and, judging by our visit, a loyal, lively and friendly clientele.
To the right on entering is a bar area, which was too full on our visit to pick up any detail, to the left is a smaller room with seating, possibly a family room. At the rear is a lounge type area, full of tables and chairs and with a tele on the back wall. The central bar serves both bar and lounge.
Three beers from Old Cottage: Halcyon Daze, in excellent nick, Oak Ale and Stout and 3 guests: Everards Coppernob, Shardlow Spring has Sprung and Idle Brewery Idle Eyes on our visit.
There's a few decent looking ale houses to go at in Burton so we didn't spend long in here but I'd certainly be happy to return for an extended stay.

Warm, friendly back street pub. Another little brewery in Burton. Serves 3 of their own beers plus 3 guests. Being just round the corner from the town hall, its worth a visit on a beer festival night. Well its worth a visit anytime really.
