One of the original pubs on this stretch of North Street long before the whole area was gentrified, it has had a few different names over the years but seems to have settled down and has been trading under this name for some time now. There is a pleasant beer garden at the back for the warmer weather, something of a rarity on these parts.

Internally it consists of a single, but spacious U-shaped room wrapped around a central bar counter. The atmosphere might either be described at atmospheric or gloomy depending on your point of view, with the dim electric lights supplemented by naked candles on all the tables. The flooring is dark black boards that have been worn smooth whilst the walls were painted dark grey with cream wood panelling on the lower part. A couple of large pictures were projected on to the walls which was unusual, and one of these was an old Bristol street scene with a tram. A fire-place was at the rear with a wood burning stove and an elaborate mirror up above it, whilst a number of large flower pots and foliage were on the window sills. Seating was a mixture of long benches and chairs.

Beers on tap were Wheat and Usual Amber from Frome’s Milk Street Brewery, Bitter Bully from Cheddar Ales and Crack Gold whilst a fifth pump for Butcombe Gold appeared to have run out. A number of beer mats were tacked around the bar area, suggesting a frequently changing selection. Ciders meanwhile were Thatcher’s Gold along with Reveller and Explorer from Orchard Pig. All in all I thought this pub had a relaxed and chilled out vibe, and if I’d had more time I could have happily settled in for a session.

The Spotted Cow is a decent enough looking pub that still has its old pub signage in place, the hanging sign is not that good though.
Once inside there is an L shaped room which is bare boarded, the seating is bench type in bays with small stools to the front, there is a small raised area to the front left, the front right has a very long table and bench, there is more bench seating to the front right.
There was a decent choice of real ales on the bar,i had a drink of Arbour Triple Hop which went down very well, the other beers were Bath Ales Gem,Butcombe Gold and One other i fail to read my notes of.
Background music was playing.
I thought this was a decent pub to have a drink in.

Very much a pub for the 20-40-something urban Yuppie that now seems to be taking over Bedminster. A couple of mainstream ales were on over Christmas (Doombar was one, I recall) - quality was average though you do get a handled mug for your troubles if you order a half. The interior is basically a big room with a raised area off to the left. Food is available, at the posher end of the pub spectrum.

I found it all a bit This Life for me, but the upmarket Boho crowd will love it here which is fair enough, they could do worse.
