One of two pubs located directly opposite one another in the heart of this quaint village, this one seems very much more geared up for eating with all the tables in the main bar being reserved for diners on our recent Saturday evening visit, and other potential diners turned away as they had no space available. Thus the only option if you just wanted a drink which was a lounge area around the corner, which seemed to be lacking much in the way of any atmosphere.

The main bar area is quite atmospheric with sanded wooden boards on the floor, black timberwork and a large stone fireplace at one end that had a real log fire blazing away. There was some ornate wooden carving above the bar counter, and low hanging, over-sized lamps created a cosy ambience. An extensive menu was chalked up on a board next to the fireplace. The aforementioned lounge around the corner seemed rather less atmospheric, with all seating being arm chairs and the fireplace out of use, being filled with decorative artefacts rather than fuel.

Beers on tap were all from Flying Monk with their Elmer, Habit and Falling Monk. The solitary cider was the excellent Cotswold Cider. Overall, whilst this was a lovely old pub, the lack of available seating for punters who weren’t eating spoilt the effect somewhat, although that may of course be different at other times.

Nice inn/hotel in a quiet(ish) village. Sells real ale. Rooms available if you want to use this as a starting place for visits around the area. Local bus stop nearby. Very comfortable seating. Food served all day.
