David Ross left this review about The Southfield Hotel
I stayed the night here and, as a hotel, I can't fault it: good value for money, comfortable accommodation, excellent freshly cooked breakfast and friendly and helpful staff. As a drinking venue, however, it leaves a lot to be desired. The bar is to the right of the front door, but is very much a hotel bar rather than a pub. The few people in it appeared to be residents, although it is open to the public. Disappointingly, there were only two draught beer taps, only one of which, dispensing Tennent's lager, was in operation. As I said, a good place to stay, but you'd be better walking the short distance into the town centre for a drink.
