no real ale here anymore - a bland bar. Not the same place it used to be, you can find that in the Pen Factory instead.

Brand new version of previous bar in the rebuilt Everyman. Not as good I'm afraid.

I seem to be following Old Boots round Liverpool and fully agree with his comments. This is one I missed last time I came to Liverpool so it was on my agenda for this time around and I wasn't disappointed. One reason was it serves food on a Monday. We enjoyed our meal from a good range of foods available, and also enjoyed the Roosters Apres Ski (one I won't need from the Fleetwood festival list now) and the familiar Kelham Island Easy Rider.
March 2011 update.
Another visit to this cellar bar in the 2011 Good Beer Guide, and enjoyed Brimstage Sandpiper. Sadly no time for a meal, but appears to still have a good menu.

Housed in a cellar under the Everyman theatre at the catholic cathedral end of Hope St. Can get very busy but I managed a seat and a decent meal on a Thursday mid evening. Very pleasant York Guzzler as part of their range of well kept ales on the five hand pulls. I could have chosen Cains Bitter, Black Sheep Bitter or Leeds Samba in addition to the Guzzler, the fifth pull had Rosie's cider. Usual range of mediocre kegs plus Hoegaarden. There's a vaguely Spanish / Mexican flavour to the décor, or maybe that's just the cactii in the alcoves, and some of the punters look and sound a bit yoghurt knitter. There is a wine obession on the blackboards advertising the drinks but it's not a bad place to eat and drink.

Modern cellar bar under the Everyman Theatre that is very popular with a certain type and age of people, you know the type, over 50 but still think they're trendy. The beers on offer on Saturday were exactly the same as last time we visited, so maybe they don't change much. I had a pint of the Betwixt Storr which was very good. Interesting lights and loads of cactuses? cactii? Either way there's a lot of them around. There's also a function room which was hosting a 60th when we were there. The place was packed to the rafters and very, very noisy. It's OK in here though.
