As described by Moby, below, this is a fairly ordinary town pub that does B&B, not that busy when we visited. It claims to be a gastro pub, but all that seemed on offer was pizzas and Sunday roasts. The ales on were Old Speckled Hen and Surrey Hills Shere Drop, plus the fairly standard array of Fosters, Becks, Peroni, Stella and Strongbow. The TV screens were muted, there was little conversation and we didn’t feel inclined to make an evening of it here. I’d pop in again if passing.

Now classed as a gastro pub after a re-furb, I would say its still very much a pub.Lots of exposed brickwork, floorboards, white ceiling and bar front, a central curved bar that was well attended by lunchtime drinkers on barstools, other seating includes a couple of leather sofas, pew style benches and basic wooden tables and chairs. There are a couple of old pictures on the walls of the pub from way back when, one displaying the signage on the pub "Reffel Bros Fine Ales Stout & Porter. Four handpumps but only two active on my visit, which was the only negative to the experience,Doom Bar and a fine pint of Surrey Hills Shere Drop. There is a tiny wedge shaped courtyard outside area to the rear, basically to satisfy the smokers needs. There was a TV screen mounted unobtrusivly high on a wall tucked away in a corner, not on while I was there and the only evidence of any electrical gadgetry, no fruit machines or music, what struck me though was the constant hum of plain and simple conversation, brilliant. It came as a pleasant suprise here,I liked it a lot,a couple of more beers of intrest on the two vacant pumps would earn an extra point for me ,but as it stands 7/10 aint bad.

A pub that could do with some money spending non it. Very basic. The Food was expensive and not great and the staff were not altogether welcoming. Maybe we caught it on a bad day but there was nothing about our visit that would encourage us to return here again.

Tried coming here yesterday, not realising it closes from 3pm-5.30pm Mon-Sat, and 3pm-7pm Sundays.
