E TA left this review about The George Inn

A former coaching inn, currently owned by the Upham Brewery. It sits in an enormous garden, which includes a two or three large parking areas, a children’s play area and a seating area next to its own large stream, a tributary of the river. The original building has been extended and includes a conservatory laid out as a dining room, a function room with long wooden tables and a main dining room. There is also a modern annex, in a different style, which houses the B&B rooms. There is a small snug bar near the main entrance, then a larger public bar down a couple of steps. The floors are flagstones, the ceiling low and potentially hazardous to anyone over 5’6”. Recent redecoration and conversion has removed much of the original charm, and no number of fake beams can reinstall that. The staff were perfunctory, not very engaging, while the locals were a bit too cliquey for comfort. Two ales on, both from Upham. I had the Tipster, which was in good condition. A handy place for B&B or a lunchtime stop, and the garden means the children can play safely without too much inconvenience, but not sure I would come here for an evening unless I were staying in the village.
