The pub I was most looking forward to doing again in Worcester and by happy coincidence I picked a time for the stag do to appear whilst a chunk of the regulars were at a local beer festival, so it was a bit more quiet and relaxed than a usual Friday night. This worked well, as the friendly landlady popped over and chatted to us. The cask was fine form, with pints of Mighty Oak Old Man & The Sea (NBSS 4.5) and Ledbury Bitter (4) slipping down way too easily and easily justifying its GBG'24 inclusion. My favourite in Worcester and the groom agreed, as he demanded to stay for a second! A real gem; I think I’m going for a full 10.

A quick end-of-night visit as it serves until half 11 on a Saturday. Still excellent and I had a first-class pint of Hobsons Bitter. A top, top pub with some interesting characters including a 6ft transvestite and their elderly mother knocking pints back. Brilliant. 9.5

April 2014
A fleeting visit found six well-selected ales and two proper ciders. Interior and ambience remain unchanged, still a terrific little boozer. My half of Malvern Hills MHB was in good form. A place you should do without hesitation.

A multi-roomed public house with the bar situated up a few steps on entering which is unusual. Two rooms lead off here, fairly small and cosy and both have real fires. The sage green interior is reminiscent of a bygone age, the 1950’s perhaps. Six ales and two ciders available, with a heavy slant to local micros which also results in some fairly cheap prices too. Lagers are on a porcelain font and there’s also an impressive array of single malt whiskies. My Hobson's Mild was excellent and my other drinkers all commented on the high quality of the pub’s brews. This is a friendly and welcoming place with an eclectic mix of customers. Rear patio allows for a decent view of the nearby cathedral. Filled rolls available at the bar. Certainly it’s one of the best pubs in the area and jockeys with the Dragon for the ‘best in Worcester’ title. A must-visit. Rated 9

The previous review describes this friendly pub very well. Whilst in the city centre, it's sufficiently off the beaten track to ensure it doesn't get overcrowded.

The friendly bar staff took our contact details and found us seats in the bar to the right as you enter.

Hobson's Best is the regular ale. Guests were Salopian Oracle & The Bends & Beowulf Dragon Smoke. Hogan's Cider & Barbourne 1066 were the 2 real ciders.

Certainly one of Worcester's best pubs.

Oggwyn Great left this review about The Plough

This was my favorite pub on our short visit to Worcester , the bar is up some stairs from the entrance with a room either side , the room on the right leads to the small beer garden and outside toilets , there is a small standing only area at the bar front , home to the chatty , friendly and eccentric locals who made us feel very welcome .
Beers on the 5 handpulls were Backyard East India , Hobsons Best , Maldon Mighty Oak , Maldon Gold and Malvern Green Pear which was lovely .
We only intended to stay for a quick pint but the rainy night and warm friendly welcome meant we wobbled out several hours later .

Lovely proper two roomed pub that is ably described below. Six pumps, beers on were Beowulf Finns Hall Porter, Ledbury Bitter, Hobsons Best, Malven Hills Black Pear, and Swan Green Swan, the Green Swan being the nicest cask beer of the day. Top pub.

A Worcester gem, two rooms either side of the stepped entrance which leads directly to the bar, one side carpeted, the other with parquet flooring. Lower walls wainscoted in green, wood burning stoves, regular tables of varying sizes, scores of whisky bottles, boxes and beer bottles on display on high shelving around the perimeter of the room. A long list of whiskies on a chalkboard. Well deserved CAMRA awards in frames on display, framed antiquarian maps which always ticks a box for me, a shelf of books, the pub also seems to support the local football club, Worcester City, with a pennant on display and mugs for sale. Good on them for that, nothing wrong with local pride. The landlord had the cricket on the radio, again a plus for me.
Beer wise a very good line up had Cotswold Hogget, Hobson's Best, Salopian Kinetic, Malvern Hills MHB Black Pear, Kinver May Bug, the bit of bar to the left side had a cider and perry from Barbourne.
There is also a small outside terrace which is towered over by the impressive cathedral, as Quinno says below, jockeys for the best pub in Worcester, I certainly can't decide, but yes, it most definitely is is a "must visit".

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Plough

Very attractive pub, with part of the bar inside the main entranceway and well-decorated rooms on either side. Good atmosphere, with the barman proffering a friendly welcome. Only had time for a half of Hobson's Bitter (£1.35) - one of six good choices available on handpump - but will certainly call again to spend a bit more time looking around properly.

Very busy pub that features in the 2014 Good Beer Guide. Grade II listed. Warm and cosy inside with fires on in both rooms. Outside drinking area also busy and the tables occupied by a group of Morris Men. We chose the Popes Brewing Co Raj. Good beer but very spicy.

Lots of 9's and a 10 in the ratings for this pub, so I don't think anyone will have second thoughts to visit here. The staff and drinkers were a good friendly bunch and what with the beer well kept, you will need to allow a bit of time on your visit. Six pumps all in use, we were fortunate on our visit as they had two Ludlow ales on, Ludlow Gold and Ludlow Best.

Soup Dragon left this review about The Plough

A nice regular Georgian frontaged corner pub that gives way to an irregular shape at the rear, where there is a patio area. The pub is in white render. The street frontage has a corner entrance and a range of large regular sash windows, with two dormers perched on top. The rear has been altered and has a dog-leg angle, with a gable end. It is a really nice building.

The interior has two rooms, one either side of a central entrance passage that takes you past a flight of steps and has part of the serving bar facing you. These rooms are both white walled, with green paintwork, with white ceilings. The entrance and bar have wood floors (part tiled in entrance), the lounge a green carpet. Both rooms have grren seats and stools. The bar, where i went, has a small fireplace with grate. The walls have old maps and other pictures on, and there is a collection of old whiskey bottles. There was no TV that i saw and the background music was general and soft. The service was fine and there were a few locals in.

Beer; usual tap stuff with a few continental lagers. On handpull there were; Salopian Oracle, Hobson's Bitter, Titanic Commemorative Ale, Beowulf Beorma and Weahteroak? Keystone Hops, served southern style. The Hobson's was decent.

A proper pub; great choice, a friendly place - a must visit really. I shall head here when i next return to Worcester.

Clive Thompson left this review about The Plough

I've never failed to get into conversation in this place and my latest visit was no different. I hadn't been in for about a year but nothing had changed, which is the beauty of this place. Always some interesting beers to try, as well as some new ones on me they had the excellent Titanic Stout on this visit.
