Formerly the Windsor Castle, the High Oak is a bit of a strange pub hidden in a row of terrace houses in a residential road to the north of Ware town centre. It gives the impression of being a converted terraced house and the central bar you enter from the small decking area with tables and chairs at the front of the pub gives the distinct impression that you’ve just gate crashed somebody’s private lounge for a beer.
Internally the bar area is one horseshoe space around the central serving area, although some remaining exposed dividing wall beams does looks like it used to be more than one room. Then beyond is apparently a backroom and garden, but we didn’t make it this far.
Not sure if this is a GK tied house, but suspect not as that would mean it having a guest real ale policy usually frowned on by the ‘Greedy Evil Kings’ of Suffolk. Beers as below and the Mordue Radgie Gadgie was a really well kept 4.8% golden English Pale ale.

If you have climbed up Musley Hill away from the town centre, the High Oak is a good double header with the nearby Crooked Billett if you enjoy well kept real ale.Besides GK IPA,there was spot on Fullers Summer Ale and Mordue Radgie Gadgie on handpump. The pub is small and traditional in a terrace and has sections either side of a central bar. There was a friendly welcome from a barmaid with a faint American accent, and the interior decor and furniture gave the feeling of a lounge bar rather than a basic boozer .A very good choice for a quiet drink away from the mayhem of the town centre bars.

The High Oak is to the north of the town centre.
This was quite a nice pub that is in a terrace with houses either side of it,the pub was quite nice inside and was mainly a locals pub, there were three real ales on the bar i had a drink of Hobgoblin bitter and this was a decent drink the other beers were Bombadier and Greene King IPA.
