Will Larter left this review about The Old Bell Gate

This traditional local still maintains most of its original multi-room layout, in particular there is a snug to the right with its own entrance. Elsewhere some internal walls have been removed, but not a lot has changed since my last visit which was probably almost 40 years ago when I lived in Hemel.

It was very quiet on my winter Monday visit, but the good news was that the solitary hand pump had Tring Jack O'Legs, a local ale that I have yet to see in Sheffield, where I now live, though some Herts/Bucks beers do make their way there from time to time. My pint went down well and it's good to see this place has not suffered the fate of its neighbour, the Beehive, which has been demolished and replaced by flats. If you're contemplating a Hemel Old Town circuit, this is definitely not one to leave out.
