Nice little pub tucked away with friendly service. We had HPA which was fine. I can't recall the other beers on! Happy to call in.

The Friars is set down a nice looking alley and it looked quite nice from the outside with its white painted frontage.
Once inside the bar faces in a single oblong shaped room which runs the width of the pub,the floor is bare boarded, there is comfy bench seating in bays to the rear.
There were three real ales on the bar,i had a drink of Hobsons Town Crier, which was a very nice drink, the other real ales were Thwaites Wainwright and Ringwood Boondoggle.
There were cobs on the bar and background music was playing.
The pub was empty on our Saturday dinner visit.
I quite liked this pub.

A nice little pub out the way of the hustle and bustle around the market square. The pub doesn't attract a lot of day trippers, so you can enjoy a quiet pint with a few of the friendly locals. They had four handpumps, so we settled on a Town Crier, which was in great condition.

Oggwyn Great left this review about The Friars

Long narrow pub , one room but divided into three areas with the bar in the centre , the bottom end of the pub has a cafe feel to it , with the other two areas being more pubby .
Service was OK if more functional than friendly , four handpulls but only one on with an OK Hobsons Twisted Spire .
Its OK if nothing special and the layout doesnt quite work .

Tucked away in an alley off a side street you could miss this place if your attention is taken by the New Inn next door. I booked in for the night and it was very quiet - I didn't see any other customers when we checked in - in fact it was so quiet that even the staff didn't turn up for the breakfast we booked for the next morning so we had to go to the Wetherspoons. The whole of Bridgnorth was quiet on that night to be fair, probably because the rain had hammered down for most of the day. Staff on the Friday night were friendly though. Just one handpull on which was Hobson's Twisted Spire. The place didn't leave a lasting impression on me but, as I say, it was so quiet everywhere I would have to pay it another visit before I pass judgment.

I took a mate of mine from Derby here for the weekend as I had heard from friends that the accommodation at this pub was very good. We stayed a couple of days in December 2011 in the lead up to Christmas and I have to say it was one of the friendliest places I have stayed. The real ales are spot on and the landlord was very hospitable. When you open the door to the pub you are met with a warm red ambience and lively locals who wanted to show us around the 25 so or pubs that you can find in Bridgnorth! Would definitely stay here again. This place has just tonnes of history.

Old Boots left this review about The Hen & Chickens

A long thin pub hiding up an alley way off a side street, I only spotted it because of the second hand book shop opposite and went to investigate its dusty tomes. The space is divided up into a number of oddly furnished almost rooms and proper rooms. The counter with its four handpumps is opposite the main door and serves Pardoes and a guest – Shropshire Gold in this case, plus the usual range of kegs. Bland white unrelieved walls, carpets here and there, benches, sofas with cushions, tables and chairs all fairly traditional in style. A big screen dominates one end. I found the whole place a bit weird, which is unusual for me, but the beer was well kept and the punters seemed friendly enough.

Soup Dragon left this review about Friar's Inn

Update: The Friars Inn has returned to its former name The Hen & Chickens - it looked the same, except for the piano and the Beers were still the Pardoes

**************************************
Narrow and long pub, with several partitions to create near rooms, with a strange mix of piano, Carlos Tevez photo, sofas, tables and stools. All was clean and the service and the food were fine.

Beerwise, Salopian Shropshire Gold and a couple of Old Pardoes made me feel at home a bit; Entire and Original. Both were fine.

A staple kind of place. I liked it and would go back, its just Padoe's beers are local to me and Dark Swan and Bumblehole are better.

Nice enough town centre pub - a few real ales. More a lunch pub for the ladies than evening 'hang-out' for the fella's. Not my glass of beer so to speak.

Really tiny pub in a side street. Very welcoming landlady. Varied selection of well presented beers and delicious food. Reasonable prices.
