Apparently established in 1872, Denholms is a pleasant pub with traditional décor that was empty during a recent Monday evening visit. The bar on the right-hand wall supports a standard keg range and pub grub is available during the day. I didn’t read a menu, but a pie and pint deal for £4 is available Monday thru to Friday. I counted two plasma screens and spotted an advertisement for daily live horse racing. There is also a weekly quiz every Wednesday from 19:00. Downstairs are the toilets and a second bar that is available for hire. I found the service to be very friendly and I would pop back in again if passing.

Situated just behind Glasgow Central station (Hope St exit) this is generally a pretty busy pub most weekends , as such the clientèle tends to be a mix of regulars and folk waiting for the last train to surrounding towns, mostly friendly working class folk and will chat to you (some can get a bit drunk/loud on Sat but generally well behaved). A traditional looking bar inside with a nice bar area on the right as you enter, a large mural behind the bar (no idea who the folk are) there is ample seating areas and enough room to stand at the bar (although it can get busy so expect to get bumped). Drink selection is ok with the usual beers (no real ales) Tennents, Guinness etc, whiskeys and vodkas etc - Prices are about average for the area ( Tennents £3.10 on 18/4/2014) Bar staff are mostly pretty good (excellent in some cases) however there are times when the regular staff aren't on that they just ignore you (not the first time this has happened however on I waited nearly 10 mins last week in a half empty bar to try and get served (sober and had my suite on after work) and was just ignored..... so just walked out) Friday Saturday nights are popular busy karaoke nights very well hosted - toilets (gents at any rate) are a fair trek down a steep flight of stairs so give yourself time to get there - worth a visit especially when regular staff are on.

Opposite the entrance to Glasgow Central Low Level station, this is a very busy, traditional style pub, attracting a mixture of regulars and passing trade. The street level bar is wood panelled and features a large mural depicting, presumably, groups of customers. The toilets are inconveniently located in the basement, as is the former lounge, which now lies unused. There are extremely popular karaoke sessions on Friday evenings and prices are reasonable for the city centre, with Guinness at £2.85 a pint.
