Michael Wright left this review about Gissons

Went in on a Friday lunchtime on way to Torquay, an easy and not miles out of way detour off the A38, and also has easy access back onto A38, more of a large lay-by really

Large car park and a large pub, as would be expected on this popular tourist route it is food orientated, but on my visit had three hand pulls [only two available at the time] I cannot remember what I had, but it was a local Bays brew, and a nice pint, the other pump was also Bays

Food, varied in price, has a carvery / buffet setup, but also an extensive menu, I settled for a beef baguette, and it was gorgeous, crammed with lovely slightly pink 1/8 inch thick slices of tender beef, horse radish in a fresh warmed baguette, with dressed salad leaves on side, worth the drive just for that

Staff very polite, cheerful & helpful [told me way back onto A38, just go past the garage BTW]

The interior is airy modern type decor with split open levels, with various areas, settees, bar stools, dining tables, low tables, a fair mix, take your pick

Toilets clean & certainly not smelly [wheelchair users may encounter some problems as access is up stairs from bar, may be an easy route I never spotted]

I would certainly return if in the area, and if you are en route to Torbay area, on the A38 and need a stop, bite to eat or a pint, do yourself a favour and turn left at the Kennford sign, it is not far to the pub

Their web link has more, well worth a visit
