ORIGINAL REVIEW August 2010
You enter into a bare boarded seating area with a retractable frontage when the weather is hot,and a doorway into a small bar with a real fire when cold,settles and stools together with a small counter with three handpumps serving Adnams Bitter,and Langton Inclined Plane and Bridge 61 from a local microbrewery.The small bar is dog friendly and frequented by folk who live aboard their boats,and the drinks counter also serves the useful supplies store next door.Ring the bell if no one around to pull your pint.Bar snacks available most of the time,canal info is kept in racks in the larger room.Full of conversation and very traditional.
UPDATE
The only real change is the addition of a large pub garden extending down from a side decking area.The two real ales on my trip were Langton Inclined Plane and Adnams Southwold,which I've encountered here before and must be the regular ales.The store has also expanded in size ,overall a charming and useful place if visiting the canal.

A small and traditional looking stone built pub facing directly out on to the pleasant canal junction, it’s much more inconspicuous than it’s all together larger and brasher neighbour just opposite and looks just as much like a small shop or eatery than a pub, not least perhaps because these do indeed form part of the same building. There are a few picnic benches immediately outside the pub to make the most of the outlook, and a decent size beer garden alongside.
Internally it consists of two quite smallish rooms, with the one containing the bar counter being especially tiny. In actual fact, the bar counter consists of little more than two hatches, with a brick chimney breast in between. One is labelled as being for soft and alcoholic drinks, with the other for hot drinks and food. The hatches are made from arched brickwork, quite what their original purpose was I’m not sure. Décor wise it’s quite traditional, with varnished wood panelling on the ceiling, whitewashed brick walls and a brick tiled floor. A few colourful plates were on the wall depicting various views of the canal whilst a specials board listed a few options such as Beef Bourguignon, Vegetable Sweet & Sour or Chicken in a Black Bean sauce, and most of these were priced at a very reasonable £5 or so. The adjacent room had a flagstone floor, exposed brickwork on the walls and an attractive vaulted ceiling with all manner of farming implements on display.
Beers on tap were Langton’s Inclined Plane (named after the nearby and short lived system for hoisting boats between two levels of canal as opposed to traversing the flight of ten locks), Langton’s Redwood and Adnam’s Southwold. Ciders meanwhile were Stowford Press and Old Rosie. All in all, a great little pub and well worth stopping by.

Original - May 2010
A cosy and interesting boozer right on the canal with an open fire. The Langton Inclined Plane, from Thorpe Langton down the road, was the pick of the beers and a couple of these slipped down well. More of a boozer than the Foxton Locks Inn, over the canal, which specialises in food.
Update - March 2013
A recent lunchtime visit found little changed at Bridge 61 but was a reminder of what a pleasant spot this is. At the bottom of Foxton Locks on the left it is very easy to miss and could easily be mistaken for a gift shop or cafe. There is a serving hatch which opens on to the towpath and is used during the Summer along with a couple of tables at the edge of the towpath.
The welcome is very friendly and the clientele on our visit was a mix of walkers, cyclists and those working on and around the canal. The simple fare, baguettes, pies and baked potatoes, was going down well. All this along with a lit fire in the small bar makes for a cosy spot on a chilly day.
Beers on were Langton Inclined Plane and Woodsman along with Adnams Broadside. The Inclined Plane slid down well.
If you're visiting Foxton Locks then this is the ideal resting spot. If you're not then this place is an added incentive to do so.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about Bridge 61
Excellent little waterside pub, housed in a low single-storey building with two small rooms and a patio beer garden of almost equal size. Small bar counter, little larger than a cupboard with a hatch. Interesting memorabilia. Three handpumps offering Adnams Southwold plus Scarecrow and Inclined Plane (£2.90, and in fine form) from the local Langton Brewery. Well worth a visit for those not tempted by the more upmarket and much larger Foxton Lock Inn across the canal.

Bridge 61
Visited evening of 18th September 2011
A gem of an old fashioned styled proper pub a cosy antidote to Foxton Lochs inn, and it must surely have the smallest bar in England. It truly is a canal side pub with tatty old sticky tables and pub bar stools and chairs. But lots of original canal ware, memorabilia, tools and lots to read in local books and magazines.
There was quite a crowd of locals in the public bar, and then there is a sort of conservatory around what I assume is the chimney to an old furnace. Had a proper bar shelf with coat hooks underneath, church pews and white washed walls. Well lit garden outside with good view of the canal junction.
Offers light snacks and 3 Real Ales on hand pumps locally brewed ‘Bridge 61’, ‘Inclined’ named after the incline carrying the old canal boats and Adnams Bitter. Only on criticism the bar man only drank lager so didn’t know how the beers tasted!
