Old Boots left this review about Royal Oak
Located at the far end of the village just before the steep ascent up Greenhow hill. Two doors lead from the entrance vestibule into what is now a single room. The counter is to the back and there’s a variety of seating around the sides and centrally. The previous dividing wall has been pierced and lined with copper to accommodate a wood burning stove. Three pulls with two in use, Ossett Blonde and Theakstons Best, a couple of low T-Bars provide a normal unexciting range of kegs. Decorated with pictures old and new of the dale and whisky jugs, there’s newish stone floors and an open fire, screen and dart board as well. Old hits from the 60s and 70s playing constantly but quietly in the background. There’s an outdoor smoking / seating shelter across the road with a decent view of the north side of the dale and bits of the village.
