The last time I was in Langley Mill this pub was closed and I was told it was unlikely to reopen because it needed some extensive (and therefore expensive) work doing on the roof. Someone has evidently squared this circle by converting a large portion of the building to flats and reopening a pub of sorts in a corner of the ground floor. In fact, the state of the art toilets seem to take up more floor space than the bar and drinking area. There are four hand pumps, with three beers on, two from Titanic and one from local Navigation. (See photo.) It's rather odd to be in a large pub building like this but in a confined space similar to the micropubs we'd been doing all afternoon. Better than a permanently closed pub, though.

A friendly welcome awaits at the Railway Tavern and some surprisingly good beer.
There are blackboard lists of the Alcazar range inside and it's fairly broad with some 10 beers or so listed. Only two were on: Alcazar Ale, a pale and zesty thirst quencher and Fox Tale Ale, darker and more complex at 4.9% but very smooth. Both were in excellent nick and went down well. I've never come across Alcazar beers before but will certainly try them if I see them again. There are 8 handpumps here so maybe the Railway will offer more of the range over time. In the meantime, I'd happily return as it is.

Basic looking from the outside, but well worth a visit to a pub which is the brewery tap for the Alcazar Brewery. The interior retains the traditional Victorian layout with a seperate room to the left of the entrance,a central island bar with a public bar to the right and through the corridor to a back seating area with it's own serving area.
Most of the locals were drinking the lager and televised sport was on screens in all three rooms with different matches from both Sky and ESPN.However the two Alcazar ales stocked were in great nick and I would use this pub again in any future visit to Langley Mill. The welcome was friendly, but this is a traditional boozer and there was no sign of food.

The Railway Tavern was an Home Ales tied house,it is a pretty ordinary looking pub i did'nt go in when i took this photo but i have heard this pub has beers from the Alcazar brewery on tap and Alcazar beers are quite hard to find except in its brewery tap.

Set over two rooms, this is the Alcazar brewery tap. Only two Alcazar ales on the go with a third turned on my visit, despite a vast array of empty pumps. My Nog was indifferent, quality-wise. I found this place fairly unfriendly, not helped by the naff 1970’s red and brown interior, which smelt of old fag smoke and an odd mechanical rumbling that I assume was coming from some dodgy equipment in the cellar. Rudimentary beer garden located at the rear. Practically empty, even with the house ales at £2 a pop. Dog and mullet (as in the haircut, not the fish) friendly. Keg mild and TV.

Uninspiring all round.
