Blue Scrumpy left this review about The Wellington

A return visit to the Wellington and this time I found it open. Opening times are restricted to 6-11 Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

Parking in the village is extremely restricted. I managed to park my car against a wall, arriving shortly before opening. This appeared to unsettle the locals a little, who arrived asking the landlord whose car it was! Anyhow, they boxed me in to serve me right for parking in their village!

I was already starting to get the impression that similar to my visit the day before the Square & Compass in West Cornforth (Durham), this pub had quite a clique of regulars. They probably put up with a few strange tourists visiting in the summer months, but weren't expecting a visit from a strange during winter.

Neverthless, I still liked this pub. It was cold, but a real fire was starting to take the edge off it. The landlord is also the brewer for Healey's based in the pub. I went for the Best, whilst locals arriving seemed to be mostly on the Blonde, which is the regular beer.

A small village pub with plenty of character and characters. On leaving, I was granted the privilege of being let out of the parking space I'd occupied, so that the local could put his vehicle in its rightful place on the lane!

Original review (July 2020):

Home of the Healey's microbrewery, this pub may have re-opened. But opening hours are very unpredictable and we heard that the landlord may be away on holiday.

We thought we tried anyway on the off chance. A notice on the door stated that it would re-open on Thursday, August 2nd. The only problem with that was that August 2nd, 2020 is actually a Sunday!

Always a Dark Mile (usually Foxfield) plus 2 other Real Ales. Open fire in bar and a wood burning stove in the games room.
Open 6-12 daily.
No food
