Fantastic old inn down the end of a steep narrow road and a small beach/cove at the bottom. On my visit the pub inside was empty but very attractive, there is a large outside area overlooking St Austell Bay which is a very nice place for a beer or food.
The sort of pub you love to find but wished nobody else knew about!
3 real ales of good quality

We caught a 525 bus that runs between St Austell and Fowey to get to this 2011 Good Beer Guide pub that I would be happy to visit again and again. Not far from the bus stop at the Ship in Polmear, ask the driver for Polkerris turn. It is a bit of a walk down a long hill to get to it, or car drivers can park in one of 2 car parks either at the top of the hill or a large one about halfway down. There is a small car park behind the pub but due to popularity of the pub it would be difficult to get into.
It is a free house and we had St Austell HSD and Skinners Porthleven. It was a scorching hot day when we were there, so we went outside and it was amazing. The terrace was just above the beach of a beautiful bay with families enjoying the seaside atmosphere and water sports.
There was a reasonable food menu with a good choice of types of meals up to 5pm, and a different one from 6pm when the dining area opened inside the pub. Friendly staff made for a good atmosphere.
A really good pub.
