Blue Scrumpy left this review about Appleton Thorn Village Hall

Appleton Thorn Village Hall has won the national CAMRA Club of the Year a couple of times previously. As far as I knew, the latest was in 2019. However, a visit on Sunday evening revealed that it had also been presented with the 2021 award by CAMRA just 3 days previously.

Opening hours are a little limited. It seems they may only be open 4 evenings each week. I'd tried to contact them in advance of my visit, but received no reply.

The Village Hall was fairly busy on my Sunday evening visit. Customers seemed to be all from the village itself or at least the local area. They conversed with us, thinking we had recently moved to the area. The only exception was the lady taking the entrance money, who seemed a bit confused as to why we were there. Children are also welcome.

Non-members have to pay £1 each to enter, but drinks prices are reasonable. As long as you're staying for a pint, you won't notice the pound out of your pocket.

4 ales were on for our visit - Welbeck Abbey Henrietta, Southport Carousel, Lancaster IPA & Black Edge Dark Rum Porter. Real ciders were Weston's Rosie's Pig, Gwynt y Ddraig Black Dragon, Thatcher's Stan's Big Apple & Abrahall's Lily the Pink.

I'd rate this as a very good club, which is certainly one of the best in the country. But I know a few closer to me that edge this one.
