E TA left this review about Slug And Lettuce

Previously The Vanguard, little has changed in the transfer of branding from Smith and Jones to Slug and Lettuce. The pub has 2 incongruous parts, the modern glass fronted edifice and the old ecclesiastical building which has dining tables on both floors. The terrace outside was carpeted with piles of litter, while the staff were almost completely incompetent. It took nearly 15 minutes for a female yoof to acknowledge our presence, there were no proper beer glasses available and the glassware that did eventually arrive was filthy. The muzak was dire. The pink velour-covered chairs had strange wing-arms which are a hazard to anyone with haemorrhoids. Two handpumps had clips on which indicated 6X and Hobgoblin. The latter was off, the former tasted awful. I won't be making a trail back to this Slug.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Vanguard

Smith & Jones pub having a very odd setup, with the bar located in a modern extension to the main seating area housed in a much older building (former church?). Similar 'L'shaped layout at first floor level. Four beers on handpump - Hobgoblin, Bombardier, Doom Bar and 49er (£2.80). (NB - Review dates from August 2011.)
