This 2019 Good Beer Guide pub is very much a foody pub with Doom Bar, Reunion Beardtongue, and Cotleigh Dutch Courage on tap. We enjoyed the latter two while sitting in front of a log fire. Lovely garden for the summer.

Surprisingly in the 2018 Good Beer Guide. Beautiful Building and immaculate inside. With the exception of a small area in the middle, its setup for dining and I was the solo drinker on a damp Sunday afternoon.

Three beers - Tring Ridgeway with the more ubiquitous Doom Bar and London Pride. The LP was in good condition but serving it in a branded cider glass showed a lack of dedication on the beer front. So did the £5.60 price tag, admittedly including a packet of Salt and Vinegar :-)

Nice place but not what I would call a beer destination.

Large rambling country pub consisting of three distinct buildings joined together. The attractive bar area is the left building, with the other two given over to dining and functions. There’s a fair bit of history inside and the real fires are good, as is the spacious garden. I was there as part of a wake so not really appropriate to comment too much on the subjective parts of the pub in detail. Three ales available – and despite being a Greene King house there was only one of theirs in the form of Abbott, the others were a Brains Christmas beer and a Butcombe Christmas beer. Both the Brains and the Butcombe were in good form and £3.25pp.

Great ales and great food. A beautiful, picturesque country setting and charming locals.
