A white rendered corner Thwaites pub, with black paintwork. It is in Georgian style, with sash windows, central entrance with neo-classic surround and painted stone ashlar quoins. The interior is a single open plan room, with cream and green half and half walls and carpet floor. There is nothing really in the way of pictures and ephemera, so it looks a little bare, except for the coloured glass above the the serving bar. There is a pool table and dart board and the TV had a music channel on at a decent level. The service was friendly enough, but there was no other clientele. Beer; usual stuff with Thwaites Original on handpull, although this was turned around. The Guinness was fine. The pub seemed fine, just not a lot for the real ale drinker.

ive worked lived and drank!! in many towns around the world .i would even go as far as saying im partial to a good old session.ive spent time in this boozer and alot of money.i wouldnt of done either if i didnt feel comfortable, happy with the ale, with the exellent bar staff ,and very hard working management, aye ya might get a bit bother now and again ,but show me a pub where ya dont!!! the majority of the trouble comes from out of town lads looking for it,this pub is a proper pub with good well kept drink and your sure of a laugh ,if i find myself in the area again either working or pleasure .the grapes will be receiving my custom.good luck

hello, my 1st time visit here, would love to see some comments on here that are positive as im working hard to rid THE GRAPES of its previous negativaty ,this pub was always gonna be a challenge - hell I didnt use to come to this pub as it had its "set patrons" and if u didn't belong well .... the last 6 months its coming together music is popular the karaoke on Friday nite is v well supported as is Sunday afternoon slots, the aim since I took the tenancy of this pub was to shape it up to cater for all age groups,I am always happy when customers on leaving thank me for the welcome shown & an enjoyable evening, the tag of Flying Handbag needs to be lost as you are more likely to experience unpleasantness in other pubs in Ulverston rather than The Grapes nowadays, occasionally someone does let me down if this happens it is dealt with as quickly as possible & the person/s concerned ejected & NOT welcomed back in a hurry, my motto bieng "for every 1 troublesome jerk i get rid off this pub will welcome 2 new customers " & this seems to be working . Thank you for taking the time to read this .

Basic one room town pub, with pool, darts and large screen tv. The only ale on was Thwaites Original. Little to recommend it.

When we went in this pub it was called the Horse and Groom.
Once inside there were two rooms the bar had a pool table in it and the lounge was a lot smarter and more comfortable.
When we went in this pub it was a Thwaites tied house and there were two real ales on the bar we had a drink of Thwaies bitter and this was a very nice drink the other beer was Thwaites mild.
This was a decent enough pub to have a few drinks in.
I forgot to take a photo of this pub.
