Tris C left this review about The Cumberland Arms

This is a mid-19th century pub occupying a corner plot, which was once a Whitbread’s house.
The interior is attractive and comfortable, ‘woody’ as mentioned. The interior is very traditional, but with filament bulbs in sconces and shallow fluted glass lamps hanging over the bar. One item of note, is the framed pictures of a sequence of 28 oversized pump clips from modern brewers such as Twickenham and St. Austell; even Sharp’s gets a look-in. Customers were mainly young, but there was an obnoxiously loud bunch of overseas drinkers to the rear, noisy to the point where I had to move seats; the barman didn’t look too pleased either, but didn’t intervene.
Ales amounted to two pumps, dispensing Tribute and one for Landlord at £2.80 a half and pretty good.
This isn’t a bad pub, considering the location and would make for a good double with the Albion.

A very woody pub, with bare floors, scrubbed tables and wood panelling throughout. A bit focussed on the dining side of things but otherwise an ok pub. There is a pile of board games for amusement and a side patio area for warm weather. Draught beers at time of visit were TTL, Tribute and 5 Points Pale in good nick.

Just a quick pint, then I'm off left this review about The Cumberland Arms

Popular, food-orientated operation but still very much a pub. Traditional - but well lit - interior, a nice relaxed atmosphere and plenty of bar staff (even at busy times). Not a lot of space around the bar, but there are plenty of tables beyond and a little more seating up a few steps at the back. Also has some benches along the side path which links to Marcus Garvey Park. Now has two banks of three handpumps, currently offering Tribute, Rev James and Betty Stogs (£4.30). Overall, the attractive exterior enlivens North End Road and always worth a quick stop if passing.

There are three handpumps on the counter readily visible as you enter, and these were clipped for Twickenham Naked Ladies, St Austell Tribute, and Otter Ale (the 4.5% one - £2.05 a half). There are three more pumps around to the back end of the bar, but when I visited on Wednesday afternoon they had on the same three ales. There are chalkboards all over the place, most usefully listing the real ales on that day, plus wine lists and menus.

This is a gastropub. The chaklboard menu on the wall listed gastropub stuff at gastropub prices. I also didn't pay too much attention to the wine list, but I guess it's good to know that they do a varied range of the stuff. Nonetheless I quite liked this pub. The furnishings are all normal tables and chairs, and although it's been completely opened up, it still retains much of its pub character. The bar counter looks original, with its unusual mix of matchboard and fielded panelling, as does the wood panelling on the walls up to dado level. The pub is a bit bigger than it looks from the front, stretching a fair way back on the left next to the footpath. There's also a fair bit of outside seating next to the park.

The Otter Ale was in super nick, and although there were "only" three ales on they were all quite interesting. Although not one of that rare breed, the destination pub, it's certainly worth a punt if you're in the area.

The Cumberland Arms is a long thin pub with seating at the front and seating along the left hand wall that is faced by the bar. At the rear is a raised seating area which was popular with diners during my Friday afternoon visit. There are no visual electronic distractions, but there was some low background music playing.
The bar is stocked with a premium and standard draught selection and three hand pumps were drawing Black Sheep, Exmoor Gold and Sambrook’s Wandle. The main draw of this pub seems to be the gastro menu which was available from midday until 15:00 and 18:00 until 22:00. The average price of a main on the large chalkboard menu was £14.
Outside down the left hand side of the pub are some picnic tables.

The service here was very friendly and I would pop in for another pint, but this isn’t a place that I would stay for too long just drinking.

I’ve been here a few times over the years and I quite like the place. Ideal for a Sunday lunchtime with the papers and a few pints. The ale quality has always been good, as has the service. My only gripe is the size and state of the gents toilets, it never ceases to amaze me how many pubs spend a fortune on a refurb and do nothing with the toilets.

Good old traditional feel corner pub, impressive floral displays outside compliment the blue woodwork well. Front corner entrance, with the bar L shaped directly ahead. The area opens out behind the bar with a slightly raised area beyond. The interior has wooden floors, traditional seating at scrubbed wooden tables, wood panelled walls with a muted colour scheme above. The pub is rather foody but to its credit not to the detriment of drinkers, a reasonable selection of Pride, Hop Back Summer Lightning and Harveys Sussex (3.20) on at the time. The chalkboard does advertise a huge wine range.
A nice place but my pint was pulled unbelievably short, so much so that I assumed the barman would return to top it up, however I had to call him back to do so.
