Will Larter left this review about The Brewery Tap

There are eight hand pumps on the bar here, with four from Derby Brewery and guests at the time of my visit being from Brunswick, Wentworth and Timothy Taylor Landlord. I had the Brunswick Three Brewers which was OK without being outstanding, and like all the other beers on offer well over 4% - how about a session beer, guys?

The pub itself is pleasant enough, though rather basic in its "hack everything off the walls and leave it" attitude. An interesting contrast to both the nearby Exeter Arms, where an effort has been made to create a harmonious interior, and the Bridge Inn where the pub's been designed to within an inch of its life, squeezing out any character it might have had. Here we're left with the bare bones, which is OK but perhaps with room for improvement in terms of atmosphere.

28/10/13. Another trip to the Assembly Rooms. another decent pint and a beef sandwich. Everything just as good as before, glad to see that the tap is continuing to uphold its royal standards.

31/05/2012. Popped in for a pint and a fish finger sandwich (awesome) last night before a shop at the Assembly Rooms. Fantastic pint of Derby Brewery Business as usual and the fish fingers were up to thier usual standard. Nice polite staff and a wife friendly drinking environment. Excellent all round, have been here many times and will continue to visit when I am in the city.

Situated on the banks of the river Derwent and dates from 1862. This superb refurbished Victorian pub is well worth a visit especially the Derby brewery beers, which were all very moorish. One of my fav on the day was a ruby ale called Double Mash. Will defo return.

A modernised interior – maybe too much so for my tastes – all very light, open and airy though the building itself is a very pleasing piece of architecture, especially the curved apex end. There does seem to be a trend towards newer brewery taps being gastro-lite but given the pub was long-shut I suppose it’s better this than that! Anyway, a selection of the Derby Brewery beers were available in good shape as well as guests over 10 handpumps. There is apparently an ale and cheese tasting tray for the Derby beers but I failed to spot this in operation. Not enough personality for me to put it on the priority list for the next Derby visit but a decent stop nonetheless.

ROB Camra left this review about The Brewery Tap

Great refurbishment of a dead pub by Derby Brewery that looked like it was more likely to be demolished rather than reopened. Large horseshoe shaped bar with 10 handpumps, at least 5 from Derby and several guest ales. You can also buy a sampling tray of 5 Derby beers in 1/3 pints along with a selection of local cheeses. It's a little bit echoey (is that a word?) as it's all hardwood floors but very pleasant all the same. Good quality beer served by friendly, knowledgeable and efficient staff. Has an upstairs area that has acoustic gigs on some nights as well. A fine job done here by Derby Brewery, well done guys. (May 2010)

Called in again on Saturday and had a another couple of good pints whilst stood on the outside non smoking patio on the first floor, which was full as it was a lovely day. Still doing a great job here. This is Ms Camra's favourite pub in Derby.

Went in there with my mates the other week. The barmaid served us all five of the Derby ales in one-third pint glasses with a bowl of cheese served on a wooden tray. We had two between us. I recommend you try this pub.
