This pub has had a major refurbishment since the last review and is now much more foody. Still has the bare floorboards etc and there was a good range of well kept real ales on the bar, but the clientele has changed quite a bit. There's still room for a bunch of locals in the area near the conservatory but the rest of the main room is given over to diners. We managed to get a table at the front of the pub despite only wanting a drink. This wasn't a problem to the staff, but two groups of women kept glaring at us. We had a couple of beers and considered having a third just to p*ss them off, but decided to leave as we had a table booked elsewhere. Two guys managed to dive on to the table as we left. I wonder if the daggers in their backs hurt :-))

I like the Starbank, it's a genuine pub that people travel to for the atmosphere and conversation (I went early evening). Right on the waterfront so it has good views. Wooden floors throughout with an uncluttered whilst attractive decor. All the tables are for drinkers and there is a covered patio area for diners at the back. Round the other side of the bar is an unobtrusive TV showing sports. Six real ales, four of which were Scottish brews plus two from the Mordue Brewery including the excellent Workie Ticket. An all round good pub and one that I'd recommend.
