Steve C left this review about The George Tavern

The George Tavern has a bar counter on the rear wall that faces three tables that run across the front windows. To the left steps lead down to a pool table and to the right is a stage area where a drag queen was hosting karaoke. The bar supports standard keg. I was glad to leave.

Looked promising when I entered sat early afternoon , big windows give plenty of light throughout which I always like, another pub that appears aimed at students with the pool table being free to students Monday to Friday and the worst crime of all loads of lager and only John Smiths bitter on, does 'light Bites' and the beer on a burger stuff, I had half a bitter and left when a load of students came in talking loudly how they will put the world to right. Giving it a six but only because my son likes it but he's their target group.

2 unused handpumps on the bar. A large pub that isn't too bad despite no real ale. Slightly ruined on this afternoon visit by some awful AOR rubbish being played on the jukie. Supertramp? Dear me. Ah well never mind.

ROB Camra left this review about The George Tavern

This pub was reported as now stocking real ale in the local CAMRA magazine, so I decided to give it a try. The "A" board outside also promised real ales. Both were lying. There are 2 handpumps, one with a reversed pump clip for Doom Bar. I asked the barman when it was due back on, he shrugged and said he didn't know. I had a half of something fizzy. It's a split level pub with a pool table and quiz machine on the lower level. The upper area seems to be set up for dining with the middle bit being used for drinkers. It's a neat looking pub, shame about the lack of real ale. The pub would have been a 6 but the lying on the "A" board loses it points.

Walked past a week later on our way to the beer festival. Pump clip still turned round. I don't think they sell ale no matter what the local branch think.
