Will Larter left this review about Whittington Cat

This pub near the bus stops opposite the Catholic church and gardens has a banner displayed above the doors, proclaiming its award of the Best Pub in Cumbria 2019. On checking, this award is from the local newspaper, the News & Star, and judging by the list of finalists seems to be for pubs in Cumbria outside the Lake District, or perhaps for pubs in Cumbria who managed to get their customers to vote for them. Actually, this pub has a lot going for it, especially the small atrium which helps light the area by the bar, which is quite a long way back from the front windows (see photo). In the interview with one of the staff when the award was made, the favourite drink here was Fosters, which I can well imagine. There are two hand pumps, with just Hobgoblin Gold on, than which I think even I would rather have a Fosters. I compromised in this instance with a Marstons Smooth, which was cold and fizzy and pretty bloody awful, but only £2.50 a pint. (Luckily I had a half.)
