The pub has possibly had a bit of a refurb since the previous reviews, there are a few alcoves and quieter areas but there is no longer a physical separation between the areas. The main room and bar area are at the rear with the bar along the back wall, a side area has a fireplace and a few small tables. On entering, incongruously, you enter to a lobby with the toilets on the right but an inglenook fireplace and single table to the left. I expect the entrance has moved, or a dividing wall relocated but it seems like a wasted location for a grand fireplace. A narrow room beyond here runs along the front of the pub. There are still bits of remaining proof of the buildings age, as many of the ceiling beams look real (but not all). Décor includes framed colour illustrations of plants, trees and birds and there are bits of panelling as well as more modern open backed display shelving full of the usual pots and kettles.
There is a large area of patio seating to the back of the pub where there is also a car park.
Robinson's beers, four on including new to me Rock the Cask Bar, presumably another music based collaboration. Food served which was of good quality and was really the reason for our stop. A decent place.

One of 5 pubs that were open on the main through road of Tarporley on my visit and also a pleasant place. Multi-roomed and a very traditional style pub. There are 2 serveries serving 2 of the 4 rooms. Real ales available from Robinson's dispensed from 3 handpumps on each bar and apparently the food is nice according to my mate.

Saturday 14th May 2011. Pre-booked party of 19 arrived about 5.30pm. Tables reserved and set for us, we had already indicated the meals we were after and so after a short drink we settled around the tables and the meal was served. Service was excellent with very attentive and courteous staff. Food was hot and very well prepared and everyone in the party enjoyed the main course. Those who had deserts also enjoyed them very much and service was well timed, not intrusive but yet again we were not left waiting for ages. Good range of drinks available and the ambiance was very relaxing. We would class this pub as a little gem somewhat off the beaten track (By-pass means most people miss the town altogether). Well worth seeking out though!
